AlUla

Three hundred and twenty thousand guests against a thousand keys. The oasis sells out. The Red Sea did not. Hegra takes a ticket. Sharaan takes no one.

The place in a minute

Why here
An oasis that sells out, against a coast that did not. A thousand keys, and a winter that is an allocation.
The difference
Hegra is a ticketed morning. The Old Town is an evening. Ashar is the canyon. Sharaan is a drawing, not a stay.
This season
Winter at Tantora runs from 18 December to 10 January. October–November and March–April are the only months a rate moves. Summer passes forty degrees.
The limit people miss
A rendering is not a reservation. The tombs are not downstairs from the room.

The fork

The tombs at dawn, or the town at night

Hegra

You get

A ticketed morning and the tombs. The slot is separate from the room.

You give up

A walk-in, and the idea that the hotel is the site. It is not.

Who it fits

A guest who booked the morning, not a circle drawn around the valley.

The Old Town

You get

An evening, mud brick, a house that is the archaeology.

You give up

The canyon, the pool in a view, and the tents. Those are Ashar, a different stay.

Who it fits

A guest who wants walls, not a rendering of Sharaan.
