Mahé is not La Digue

Fifty-nine percent of the beds are on Mahé, and it has the lowest average rate. La Digue has eight percent of the beds and the highest rate. A one-island week sells the country short.

The hubs brief starts from about thirteen and a half thousand beds. That is not the 15,906 licensed beds in the destination file, and the Office does not say what the smaller number leaves out. Of the thirteen and a half thousand, about fifty-nine percent are on Mahé, twenty-six on Praslin, eight on La Digue, and eight on the outer islands. The average rate runs the other way, from a Tourism Department survey: Mahé about a hundred and seventy-six dollars, Praslin about two hundred and thirty, La Digue about three hundred and four. The smallest of the three hubs is the most expensive. Volume and price do not live on the same island. Do not add the two bed counts together.

Mahé is brands, a town, a market, a hike, and now Cheval Blanc. It is also where a week goes to feel like a holiday in a small capital. Praslin is the classic resort island, Vallée de Mai included, the pairing the Office calls canonical once you have done Mahé. La Digue is the icon: a bicycle, granite coves, the beach everyone has already seen. Book it for that, not for a lobby. A Mahé-only itinerary sells the country short. Two hubs is the minimum. The private islands are a tier above all three, and the outer islands — Alphonse, Desroches, the fishing weeks — are a fourth country with the same name.

Book the island for what it is, not for the resort you wish it were.

Four Seasons Desroches is an island of its own, filed by the Library as LHL-I-028 and by the Office off the three hubs. Do not treat it as a Mahé hotel with a long transfer. Do not treat La Digue as a private island because the photograph was empty. The emptiness there is a path and a rule about cars. The emptiness on Fregate is a buyout. They are not the same luxury.

The last line

The desk can ask. It cannot invent a door.

Where the house is open, that is the official rate and the privileges that house actually honours. Where it is not open, the answer is that it is not open. Miles and status are not a promise on a project with no reservations.
