Winter at Tantora runs from the eighteenth of December to the tenth of January. The top of the ladder does not discount. Summer halves the rate because the valley is past forty degrees.
The season runs from September to May. December to February is the core, and at the top of the ladder it is effectively sold. Winter at Tantora, the eighteenth of December to the tenth of January, is the machine: with the Ancient Kingdoms festival, the Arts festival, Desert Polo and the UCI AlUla Tour, the Office counts a conveyor of more than two hundred events from autumn into spring. Book the peak eight to twelve weeks out. You are not negotiating a rate. You are asking to be on a list.
October, November, March and April are the shoulder, and the only months a rate moves. Market occupancy near sixty-six percent is the negotiable season — Wellness Festival, Desert X, the trail race. June through August is the trough the Commission keeps on purpose. The rate halves. The valley goes past forty degrees and the outdoor sites shorten their day. Use summer if you want a cheap bed and an empty tomb at dawn, and if you can walk in that heat. Do not use it and then write that the destination was disappointing. It was closed, politely, by the thermometer.
What the programme is not
Tantora is not the Palio. Nothing in the valley is a civic machine that pre-existed the hotel. The calendar was built to fill beds, which is why it fills them. Hegra still requires a slot bought in advance. A festival ticket is not that slot. A room at Banyan Tree is not that slot. Three purchases, three mornings. The guest who needs wine with the polo is in the wrong country, as on the coast. The guest who needs the tombs without a booking will spend the trip looking at the cliff from the road.
